Joy Oladokun - Union Chapel 23.2.24

Let me set the scene for you. It’s a bitterly cold Friday evening in London, the sun from the day is a distant memory, and you’re at the gorgeous Union Chapel alongside 900 other people here to watch the amazing Joy Oladokun.

They performed for 2 hours non-stop with just their two guitars and laptops and probably the best sense of humour I’ve seen from an artist in years. I am in awe of their stamina! They never missed and beat and didn’t seem to get any fatigue.

It was a fantastic evening; having the opportunity to hear their new song “questions, chaos and faith” which was released the same day was a truly unique experience - I’m still waiting for it to be live on Spotify (record label please hurry that). I’ve followed Joy for the last few years and their music ability has continued to grow from strength to strength. Making music for their soul and for anyone who listens and who needs it. Joy’s performance really has stuck in my brain and I will be thinking about it for years to come. Also their impression of a British accent was top notch as was their love for Love Island.

The overall message from Joy and their performance was that “Every time I get up on stage I hope to give some kid somewhere the hope to keep going; that’s the only reason I get out of bed”. Overall, and this is a big statement, the evening has restored my faith in this world. Thank you, Joy, you made me feel happy - I left feeling lighter. I cannot remember the last time a performance did that for me. It was an evening full of happiness, safety and most of all joy.
